Louis Rhead (1857-1926)

Louis Rhead (1857-1926) was born in Etruria, England, and immigrated to the United States in 1883, becoming a naturalized citizen the following year. Shortly after he began his career in the United States, he became prolific as a poster artist, but refocused his skills toward book illustration in the late 1890s, when the popularity of posters began to decline. He was also an angler, and according to his obituary, he died of a heart attack resulting from his efforts to catch a thirty pound turtle.
